Updated: 2009-06-12 16:35 Cultural and Artistic Performances of Expo 2010 Shanghai China Upon the opening of Expo 2010 Shanghai China, cultural and artistic performances to be conducted in the Expo Site can be classified into two groups, six categories, and eighteen sub-categories. Such performances will perform three major functions: theme interpretation, atmosphere cultivation and crowd decentralization. In accordance with various organizing parties, the performances will fall into two groups: events sponsored by the organizer, and those sponsored by participants. Events sponsored by the organizer fall into four categories: ceremonies, parades, stage events and thematic events, which cover eleven sub-categories including the official Opening Ceremony, the opening ceremony of the Expo Site, China Pavilion Day, the daily opening and closing of the Expo Site, the Closing Ceremony, parades with special costumes, original programs and activities, folklore, folk arts and folk customs, festive events, Young Expo events, and community activities. Events sponsored by participants fall into two categories: National Day events/Honor Day events/Special Events/event weeks of provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities; and daily events. Those two categories cover seven sub-categories, including events on National Pavilion Day, events on the Honor Day of international organizations, special events of cities, special events of enterprises, event weeks of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, expo theme months, and daily events. Regarding those program contents required by Expo 2010 Shanghai China, 20 key words or phrases will be used as leading terms to provide a basis for organizers' program selection and participants' program declaration. These words are: theme, premier performances, renowned, folk art, trendy, award-winning, parade, arts festival, intangible cultural heritage, cooperation, innovation, enlightenment, opening and closing of the Expo Site, urban agglomerationeffects, creation, world tour, interactive, reasonable, arts exhibition, and high-tech contents. Expo 2010 Shanghai China has designated 32 venues within the Expo Site, either indoors or outdoors, number 32 in total. There are six indoor spaces: the Great Hall of the Expo Center, the VIP Hall of the Expo Center, the Large Performance Area with a special steel stage, the Small Performance Area with a special steel stage, the Expo Performance Center and the Entertainment Hall. There are 26 outdoor venues, including the Asia Square, Africa Square, Europe Square, American Square, Oceania Square, Celebration Square, Exposition Square, Slipway Square, the Amusement Park, Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA) Square, Corporate Pavilion Square, nine Group Level Squares, two large docks, three roads for parades, and the water surface area of the Huangpu River. The 32 venues within the Expo Site can accommodate audiences of 200,000-220,000 people each day.
