GUANGZHOU: Engineers who helped broadcast the Beijing Olympics across the world last summer will ensure a "better service" of coverage for the 2010 Asian Games, organizers said.

Despite less cash being invested in facilities and staff than by 2006 hosts Doha in Qatar, officials believe hiring experienced technical and media staff from the Olympics Broadcasting Co Ltd (BOB) will prove invaluable.

"Under the current economic situation it is impossible for us to invest as much in broadcasting as Doha did," Ren Tianhua, deputy director of the broadcasting and media for the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee, said yesterday.

"But the team from BOB has developed a good relationship with experienced domestic and overseas broadcasters. It will help us ensure a better service next year."

The 16th Asian Games will open in Guangzhou on Nov 12 until Nov 27. The host broadcaster, Guangzhou Asian Games Broadcasting Co Ltd, was inaugurated last December and, along with BOB, comprises Guangzhou TV and Guangdong TV.

"There will be 50 stadiums used for the Games," Ren said.
