China hopes for restoration of stability in Fiji(Kyodo)Updated: 2006-12-07 20:46 China on Thursday called on related parties in Fiji to work to solve differences and restore stability, following a coup in the island nation earlier in the week.
Fiji's military leader Frank Bainimarama ousted democratically elected Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase on Tuesday and has declared a state of emergency. In response to the coup, the United States announced a halt in its aid to the country, while Australia and New Zealand said they were imposing a wide range of sanctions. |
