Shanda's hardware arm enters routers market

Shanda Networking Co Ltd's smart devices arm launched its first Wi-Fi router product on Thursday in a bid to tap into China's growing smart home market.

The router, named Modou, will act as a control platform for all electronic devices in Chinese households, said Huang Dong, head of the router project.

More than 1 million orders have been placed online, the company said.

Modou's developer, the Shanghai Nutshell Electronic Co Ltd, is eyeing to become the nation's largest wearable device maker before 2015.

Chinese tech firms started a battle in the router market, a rather cold field earlier this year.

Web security company Qihoo 360 Technology Co Ltd and smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp unveiled their routers last month.

The companies are trying to take control of the Internet connection outlets before smart electronics enter more Chinese living rooms.
