Retail prices for three luxury car brands including Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW are 64 percent higher in China than in the US, according to a recent comparison made by the Wall Street Journal. Automakers said that higher prices are due to higher taxes levied in China. Yet when taxes are excluded, prices in China are still 37 percent higher, said the report.
