Environmental protection has been one of the country's top priorities, especially after the much-highlighted 3rd Plenum of the 18th CPC Central Committee, which ran from Nov 9 to 12 in Beijing.

Terry Townshend, deputy secretary general of the Global Legislators Organization, talks to China Daily during the 6th World Economic and Environmental Conference, which kicked off on Nov 28. He shared his thoughts about the national law being developed in China to protect the environment and combat climate change, challenges and opportunities facing Chinese companies, as well as the pilot carbon trading plan in cities such as Shanghai and Guangzhou.

The 6th WEC is an annual summit co-organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Energy Conservation Environmental Protection Association (IEEPA). Its opening ceremony was followed by an awarding ceremony for the 3rd International Carbon-Value Award.

The Global Legislators Organization, or GLOBE International, is an international organization comprising national parliamentarians from over 70 countries committed to finding legislative solutions to the challenges posed by climate change and sustainable development.
