HK stocks close 0.57% higher - May 2

HONG KONG - Hong Kong stocks went up 126.70 points, or 0.57 percent, to close on Friday at 22,260.67 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 22,312.71 and 22,150.35. Turnover totaled HK$48.26 billion ($6.23 billion).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index ended up 0.23 percent,to close at 9,802.46.

All four sub-indices ended higher with the Properties ended up 0.54 percent,the Finance closed up 0.39 percent. The Commerce and Industry ended up 0.81 percent and the Utilities closed up 0.35 percent.

The Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, ended up 0.57 percent to HK$79.10.

Bank of East Asia, one of the largest local banks in Hong Kong, ended up 1.72 percent to HK$32.50.

China Mobile, China's dominant mobile carrier, closed down 0.81 percent to HK$73.10, while another Chinese telecom giant China Unicom ended down 1.85 percent to HK$11.68.

Local bourse operator HKEX, moved up 0.57 percent to HK$140.50.

For the local property stocks, Sun Hung Kai, HK's largest property developer by market value, ended up 0.36 percent to HK$98.00; Cheung Kong properties, owned by billionaire Li Ka-shing, ended up 1.36 percent to HK$133.80.

As for mainland-based financial stocks, China Construction Bank, the country's second largest bank which accounts for the third largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, ended down 0.56 percent to HK$5.32.

ICBC, the world's largest bank by market value, ended flat with HK$4.62. Bank of China ended down 0.59 percent to HK$3.39.

As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec ended down 0.15 percent to HK$6.84. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, ended down 0.45 percent to HK$8.94.
