Summer is the season when watermelons sell like hot cakes, but the demand for this fruit has been down this year. According to reports, farmers planted about 75 thousand mu watermelons in Zhongmou county, central China's Henan province, this year, and the total yield reached about 21,000 tons. Compared to such a bumper harvest, sales have not been as good as expected. Many have blamed fall in non-local retailers, excessive supply and low consumption for the drop in demand.
