Located inside a former cotton storage of a century-old clothing factory, the stand has mixed its unique style with the timeless beauty of an old brick-stone building where it is located, she said.

At present, the entire production remains in Austria with products exported to China. "That is why Zotter chocolate in China costs about two or two and half times as much as in Austria," Zotter said.

After six months, she said, the Shanghai theatre will be able to produce chocolates locally with main ingredients coming from Austria, but local-made products will account for only 20 to 25 percent of its total sales in China.

"We don't want to outsource our production and we want to keep it in Austria. We go to China to show that things can be different," she said.

Zotter believed that Chinese people are delighted with Western luxury goods and the market has great potential.

"We not only export Austrian luxury chocolates to China, but also the philosophy behind it. Organic and fair-trade can also come into fashion in China, I am convinced of it," she said.
