Huayi Brothers Media Corp, one of China's leading private media and entertainment conglomerates, announced on Thursday night it will join other financiers to invest a total of $120 million and $150 million in Studio 8 — a US film production company founded by Jeff Robinov, former president of Warner Bros Pictures Group, one of Hollywood's major film studios.
Huayi Brothers will handle the distribution business of all the movie productions produced by Studio 8 once it becomes a shareholder of the new venture, according to the statement.
Robinov, who quit Warner Bros in June 2013, produced a series of successful big-budget blockbusters during his time at the Hollywood studio, including The Dark Knight and Man of Steel.
As part of Huayi's global strategy, the deal provides an international channel for the company's film business amid its ambition to play a larger role in the global film market.
