The Guangzhou government plans to turn the rail transport-related manufacturing into a pillar industry of the city, with output from the sector expected to top 100 billion yuan ($16.36 billion) in 2016.
The future of the industry was examined at an executive meeting of the city government on Monday, Guangzhou Daily reported.
The industry will seek qualifications for producing trains, and the government will step up capital support for the industry, said Pan Jianguo, director of the city's development and reform commission.
