Domestic auto giant rolls out first SUV

The Gleagle GX7, Geely's first SUV, hits the market today at the Beijing Auto Show.

The Gleagle GX7, Chinese automaker Geely's first SUV model, will be launched commercially at this year's Beijing Auto Show.

The GX7 is equipped with a drivetrain combining a 1.8-liter CVVT all-aluminum engine and a five-speed manual transmission.

Models with the 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter options coupled with six-speed automatic DSI transmissions will also hit the market later this year.

The GX7 prototype was debuted in 2009 at the Shanghai Auto Show. After three year's of preparations, mass production began this year.

In addition to the GX7 SUV, Geely will launch six other models to the market, including the Emgrand EX8, EV8, the Englon SC3 and the SC6.

Also on display at the Beijing Auto Show is the all-new Geely GE. The concept car of this flagship model of the Emgrand brand was also debuted at the 2009 Shanghai show.

Geely's three brands - Emgrand, Gleagle and Englon - are exhibiting a total of 27 models at the event.

In addition to presenting its full lineup of models, Geely also displays the technologies it is currently developing for the future in three themed zones.

Among them, the drivetrain and new energy zones will jointly demonstrate Geely's "energy diversification strategy".

The strategy is to develop various alternative energy technologies for developing pure-electric and hybrid cars to supplement its gasoline-powered vehicles, allowing it to face any possible fluctuations in the world energy market in the future.

The safety-themed zone focuses on Geely's cutting-edge anti-crash and other safety technologies.

Another highlight of the brand is its two interactive experience centers at the show.

At the BMCS Experience Center, visitors can watch a simulation to experience the danger of tires bursting during high-speed driving and to see how Geely's BMCS technology can monitor and prevent the burst from happening.

In the intelligent technology experience center, visitors could witness the smart devices of the Geely Emgrand EC8.

This model combines many advanced active safety and intelligent technologies, such as the G-Net Link in-car entertainment and communication system, speech recognition system, hands-free Bluetooth technology, keyless start-up technology and a 360-degree panoramic imaging system.
