China, Denmark promote water cooperation

The Danish Minister for the Environment Ida Auken will visit China this week leading a delegation of Danish and consultancy companies to boost the commercial ties between the two countries' water industries.

Promoting a new initiative called "Rethink Water" launched by the Danish water industry, Auken's visit to Beijing, Zhengzhou and Chongqing aims to bring together the two countries' efforts to solve environmental challenges in the water sector by sharing the first results found in the initiative, according to an e-mailed statement released by the State of Green Consortium, the organization behind Denmark's official green brand.

As part of the initiative, several white papers focusing on solving complex water challenges regarding urbanization, wastewater treatment, industrial water use, and groundwater extraction and management will be published and translated into Chinese.

Abstracts from the first three white papers focusing on integrated urban water management, water efficiency in the food and beverages industries and reduction of water losses in water distribution systems will be released during the Danish minister's visit to China.

China and Denmark are taking the lead on the China-Europe Water Platform established earlier this year. Danish companies are internationally renowned for their expertise on water resources.

"We sincerely hope that Chinese decision makers and media will be inspired by the presentations of the Danish solutions and that our visit to China will contribute to further dialogue and cooperation between the Danish and Chinese water sector," said Bjorn K. Jensen, chairman of the Danish Water Forum, a promotional organization of the Danish water industry.
