BEIJING - Local Chinese authorities should intensify efforts in safe industrial production during flood season this year and take precautions against accidents, according to a circular released Saturday.
The flood season has always been an accident-prone period for important industries like mining and dangerous chemicals, said the release by the safe production office under the State Council, the country's cabinet.
"Local authorities should attach great importance to negative effects from natural disasters, including rain, floods, typhoons, strong tropical storms, mudslides, landslides, thunder and lightning as well as high temperature and high humidity," it added.
They were urged to thoroughly screen and eliminate potential hazards and weak links in production that may lead to accidents.
China will also improve its early warning system for disastrous weather and the emergency response mechanism, the circular promised.
