China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd posted a first-quarter profit that fell below analysts' estimates, a result in part of fewer subscribers than expected signing up for its high-speed service.
The company's net income rose to 1 billion yuan ($159 million), the Beijing-based company said in a statement on Wednesday. That was below the 1.1 billion yuan predicted by taking the median of six estimates provided by analysts in a Bloomberg News survey.
