The mainland is actively pushing forward the establishment of a cross-Straits monetary settlement mechanism, Fan Liqing, spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Wednesday.

The mainland will support Xiamen, Fujian province, which faces Taiwan across the Straits, as a "first mover" to set up a regional financial service center to serve cross-Straits business, Fan said.

"That practice will be helpful to promote cross-Straits financial, economic and trade cooperation and exchanges, " she said.

In response to questions on whether purchasing contracts signed by a mainland delegation to the island have been fulfilled, Fan said these purchases are "earnest and practical" and are performed promptly according to contracts.

"We feel regret over the spreading of false accusations by some people in Taiwan," she said, adding that the economic and trade group from the mainland to purchase goods in the island is "a goodwill shown to our Taiwan compatriots".

Fan also said on Wednesday that economic and trade organizations from the mainland and Taiwan will soon be able to establish offices on the other side of the Straits.

"The mainland authorities have almost completed the examination and approval procedures, which will be announced to the public soon," she said. "Economic and trade organizations in Taiwan could set up offices on the mainland following the procedures."
