Yunnan province vows to expand trade links with Vietnam

HANOI - A commerce official from China's southwest Yunnan province said Thursday that the province vows to enhance trade exchanges with neighboring Vietnam.

Xiong Qinghua, director of commerce department of Yunnan province said that Yunnan shares border with Vietnam and more and more Yunnan companies have come to Vietnam for business opportunities in recent years, mostly operating in mining, steel, machinery and agricultural sectors.

Figures showed that in the first ten months this year, two-way trade between Yunnan and Vietnam increased 15.8 percent year-on- year to $710 million, said Xiong.

A business association of Yunnan companies operating in Vietnam was established in Hanoi on Thursday. The ceremony was attended by Bai Enpei, Secretary of the Communist Party of China Yunnan Provincial Committee, and Nguyen Thanh Bien, deputy industry and trade minister of Vietnam.

Xiong said he expected the association could contribute to future economic and trade cooperation between Yunnan and Vietnam.
