China's telecom business grows 9%

China's telecom business volume increased 9.4 percent in January from a year earlier, thanks to government efforts to encourage consumption, the country's top industry official said.

Retail sales during the Spring Festival jumped 13.8 percent, Li Yizhong, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, said at a press conference during the parliamentary session on Tuesday.

The booming retail consumption during the Spring Festival, which mainly involved home appliance, textile and light industrial products, is a sign that the economy is developing in the right direction, Li said.
