Ministry of Industry and Information recently approved southwest China's Guizhou province to carry out methanol automobile pilot work, according to Guizhou provincial committee of industry and information.

Guizhou had drawn up the methanol utilization pilot work in 2010, and the province expects its methanol production capacity to reach 1.7 million tons.

Guiyang, the capital city, has added 700 methanol fuel taxis in three years since drawing up the pilot work, and the city currently has 841 methanol fuel taxis.

Some experts from the Ministry of Industry and Information were invited to Guiyang to investigate and study whether the methanol automobile pilot work will be sustainable in February 2013.

Guiyang government now plans to build 30 methanol fuel adding stations by 2015.
