Q+A: Hsin-Fa Wu, president of Dongfeng Yulon Motor Co Ltd.
Q: What's your hobby?
A: Reading. When I was a freshman in the industry, I had strong interests in automotive magazines from the US and Japan, such as Automotive News. After I became a businessman, during the past 10 years, I insisted on reading a US magazine called EMBA, from which I became deeply inspired in the marketing, sales and management side of the industry.
What's the book you are reading now?
I am too busy to have read a book recently. But last year I read Steve Jobs: A Biography.
What will you do during weekends and holidays?
I like playing golf. And I also enjoy watching mystery and detective movies. I never watch horror films.
Having been innvolved in the automotive industry for 30 years, what's your favorite car?
Of course, Feeling 101, the first model developed by Yulon, including me. It is the most important car for me. It even saved my life in a car accident.
I also like sports cars, especially US muscle cars. For example, I loved the first generation of the Chevrolet Camaro in the early 1960s, which played a leading role as Bumblebee in the Hollywood movie Transformers.
What kind of character do you appreciate in a person?
People who are kind-hearted and never give up.
Who is your idol?
My boss Kenneth Yen. He is strict with himself but tolerant toward employees. I also appreciated Peter Ferdinand Drucker (an Austrian-born US management consultant, educator and author, whose writings contributed to the philosophical and practical foundations of the modern business corporation. He was also a leader in the development of management education and he invented the concept known as management by objectives).
In your view, what is success?
Success is the moment you achieve your target.
Can you name several places you like the most?
I prefer to go to some places with wide expanses, such as Yellowstone National Park and the Rocky Mountains in the US. Also the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in China.
