Fidget spinner, a new spinning-top toy, has gained popularity and created an industrial chain within 3 months in China, Chengdu Business Daily reported on Wednesday.
The toy is supposed to calm nerves, relieve stress and improve concentration, and a whole production and sales chain has formed in cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen in Guangdong province and Yiwu in Zhejiang province in three months. The toy is sold not only via e-commerce platforms such as Taobao and JD.com but also brick-and-mortar shops, according to the report.
A manager surnamed Wang said fidget spinners became popular in China in March and now each day more than 1,000 spinners are sold. Wang works with Shenzhen Yike Technology and Shenzhen Sheng Hui Xin Hardware Products companies.
The price of the toy ranges from several yuan to thousands of yuan but most of them are between 25 yuan ($3.68) to 58 yuan. Some gold, platinum and silver ones can go as high as 10,000 yuan, according to the report.
Fidget spinner whirled its way into the hands of youngsters abroad last year but not long after that a new-anti fidget toy spread fast through US and European schools and some schools have already banned it. This has sparked a debate about difficulties children experience concentrating, according to a report by Catherine Triomphe on US education toys trend.
