China's energy sector energizes Emerson

Q 4) With construction and manufacturing sectors experiencing a slowdown, what are some of the major growth drivers the government should focus on to help boost the economy?

One area where we see a lot of potential is in the energy sector. China's energy demands will continue to rise as the economy grows. But environmental concerns mean China needs to find ways to both produce and use energy more efficiently and with less impact on the environment. Here our technologies in process management, climate control and data centers can help achieve those goals.

There's also a lot of potential in the food-related logistics sector. China needs to be more efficient in moving various kinds of food from producer to consumer. Many of these products are climate sensitive. For example, dairy products need to be kept cold to ensure safety for the consumer, and vegetables be kept fresh to maintain good taste and avoid waste. Our climate technologies can help companies build their climate-controlled supply chains.

Q 5) Instead of solely focusing on GDP numbers, the government is now looking at sustainable growth. Do you think with the focus shifting, China will see a more substantive, all-round development?

Yes. With the focus shift and good implementation, Emerson is confident about long-term sustainable development in China. The Chinese government is deepening economic reform, and technology will play a more pivotal role in driving industry transformation and upgrades. We will continue co-innovating with our partners and customers.

There are many new opportunities in China and we will align our strategies accordingly. For instance, with its "China Manufacturing 2025" strategy, China is promoting innovation and transformation empowered by smart manufacturing. This is closely linked with Industry 4.0 which is about bringing together intelligent machines and advanced analytics for the next generation of manufacturing. Emerson is a global leader in these technologies. With the government's "Internet Plus" strategy, China is investing heavily in building blocks of the Internet economy. Emerson is well-positioned to support this strategy with our innovative technologies for data centers and communications systems as well as for manufacturing and energy companies.
