Indonesia: Trade volume with China to hit $50b in next 5 yrs

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Tuesday said that Indonesia's trade volume with China is expected to reach $50 billion in next five years on spur of the improving economic performance, according to Indonesian presidential spokesman.

President Yudhoyono expressed his optimism on the achievement of the target when he met with Chinese senior official of the Communist Party of China Liu Qi at the State Palace, said the spokesman Dino Patti Djalal.

The trade volume between the two countries has exceeded $30 billion, according to Dino.

"This shows the extraordinary dynamics of the trade and investment between Indonesia and China," he said.

The spokesman said the economies of the two countries were forecast to grow significantly in the future.

"The target of $50 billion can be reached," he said.

Indonesia and China had registered positive economic growth during the global financial crisis. China posted the highest growth in the world during the third quarter, and Indonesia was the third highest after India, as many other countries suffered from strong contraction.
