On December 29, 2005, the 19th Session of the 10th National People's Congress Standing Committee passed the Decision to Abolish the Agricultural Tax Regulations of People's Republic of China.

Thereupon, the Agricultural Tax Regulations that have been implemented for nearly 50 years in the new China was repealed in accordance with the law.

The move marked the end of a tax item that had been continuing for two thousands of years in China.

The abolition of agricultural tax regulations brought the solution to the "three rural" issue to a new historical starting point.
