Friendly environment attracts foreign investmentBy Qiu Tian (China Daily)Updated: 2006-11-09 09:08 After years of rapid economic and trade development, Dongguan in South China's Guangdong Province has formed six major geological and industrial benefits to attract foreign investment. First, Dongguan, which is situated between Guangzhou and Shenzhen and also adjacent to Hong Kong in the south, has developed a fast and sound transportation network in recent years. The city has developed a total of 2,871 kilometres of roads, of which 154 kilometres are expressways. From Humen Port, which is one of the State-level A ports open to foreign ships, it is only a two-hour ride to Hong Kong Ferry Port and about 70 minutes to the Hong Kong International Airport. In addition, Dongguan links the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in the north and the Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport in the south by expressways. The city also links many cities in the Pearl River Delta via the Dongguan Railway, which is the interchange centre of the Guangzhou-Kowloon Railway, the Beijing-Kowloon Railway, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway and the Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway. The advanced transportation network has helped Dongguan better develop its logistics service for foreign-funded enterprises, making goods manufactured in the city easy to reach Hong Kong and overseas countries and regions. At present, about 7,000 cargo trucks depart daily from Dongguan to other
cities in the Pearl River Delta and all over the country.
