Editor's note: You may have a lot of expectations before you travel or move to another country. Kellivschina, our blogger from the US, also expected to encounter a few of these when she arrived in China. What were your expectations before you came to China? You're welcome to leave your comments.

1.Expectation: I expected it to be very difficult to learn Chinese.

Reality: Actually, I completely underestimated how difficult it would be to learn Chinese.

Living in China: Expectations vs reality

German students learn Chinese calligraphy at a summer camp in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province, August 5, 2010. A total of 54 middle school students from 7 Confucius Institutes in Germany came to Anhui for a one-week long summer camp starting August 5. They are expected to learn Chinese language, calligraphy and painting, and will also experience the lifestyle of their peers in Hefei. [Photo/Xinhua]
