Beijing Guangqumen Middle School held a coming of age ceremony for its Grade Three students at the museum of the Imperial College, or "Guozijian" in Chinese, in the capital at 9 am on April 24, 2014.
The ceremony has several activities, including bowing down to parents and reading classic literary works such as Filial Piety and the Great Learning, hoping these 18-year-old students can understand the broad and profound Chinese culture.
Guozijian and the Confucius Temple were the nation's highest educational institutions during the Yuan (1206–1368), Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.
