Beijing is faced with rapid growth in its elderly population, with 400 more people reaching the age of 60 every day, according to a report by the city government. Released by the city government's municipal committee on aging, the report said nearly 2.63 million registered Beijing residents were 60 years old or above in 2012, while the total number of inhabitants stood at 12.98 million. The aging population poses a challenge to the social security system. And the growing of elderly population will need more medical care. Beijing has carried out a group of measures to solve the problem, as well as made plans for the improvement of their lives. | ||||
