Iceland's president meets Chinese Esperanto delegation

Iceland's president, Olafur Grimsson (first from left); Chinese ambassador to Iceland, Ma Jisheng (second from left); deputy director of China International Publishing Group, Guo Xiaoyong (second from right); and minister-counselor at the Iceland Embassy to China, Ragnar Baldursson (first from right), have a close conversation on July 21 in Iceland's Reykjavik.

The 98th International Esperanto Conference opened in Iceland's Reykjavik on July 21. More than 1,000 representatives from 55 countries participated in the opening ceremony at Harpa, a concert hall and conference centre.

Before the ceremony, Iceland's president, Olafur Grimsson, met with the Chinese delegation, headed by Guo Xiaoyong, deputy director of China International Publishing Group. Xiao gave Grimsson a brief introduction about Esperanto-related activities on the Chinese side, such as the "Chinese Culture and Travel in Northern Europe" and "China Day" events.

Ragnar Baldursson, minister-counselor at the Iceland Embassy to China; Ma Jisheng, Chinese ambassador to Iceland; and Probal Dasgupta, president of the World Esperanto Association, were also on hand.
