Beijing launches action plan to bring clean air | |

Beijing launched the Clean Air Action Plan on Friday, pledging that a 2 percent reduction in major pollutants will be achieved by the end of the year.
Under the plan, the capital will introduce stricter standards in various fields to tackle pollution.
This includes transforming coal-fired boilers, scrapping old polluting vehicles, and imposing stricter standards for companies to build plants in the city, according to the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau.

The Beijing municipal government has put the environment at the top of its work agenda this year, launching a campaign to tackle pollution, especially in the suburbs.
According to a plan released on Thursday, the government will make efforts to improve sewage disposal, garbage treatment and air quality, as well as curb illegal construction.
The government will spend a month curbing growth of illegal construction or land use and then make a list of illegal buildings.

Beijing sets goals for pollution control | |
Beijing will implement 69 measures on April 7 to address air pollution from eight aspects, according to a detailed Clean Air Action Plan for 2013.
Annual tasks will also be assigned to Beijing’s district governments and municipal departments. The city’s annual target is to reduce the concentration of major pollutants by 2 percent each year.
In accordance with the 2013 Beijing Clean Air Action Plan, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have been categorized among pollutants that should be controlled and reduced for the first time.

Easing traffic jams top priority in Beijing | |
The Beijing municipal government announced on Monday 32 items on the to-do list to benefit people in 2013, with controlling traffic jams at the top of the list, Beijing Times reported Tuesday.
Among the 1,500 suggestions from Beijing citizens, people are most concerned with how to solve the traffic congestion and improve living conditions, an official from the general office of the Beijing municipal government said.
