Speaking at the opening ceremony for the 43rd annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), Chen said China will give full consideration to the international practice in broadcasting the games when preparing the event, and honor its commitments in bidding for the games.

The meeting attracted more than 500 representatives from 130 broadcasters from 40 countries and regions. The broadcasting of the 2008 Beijing Olimpics will be featured in the ABU's discussions.

The Beijing Organizing Committee will also introduce the host broadcaster and report on its preparations for the games.

Chen also spoke highly of the role played by the ABU in promoting exchanges and cooperation between its member organizations, saying it has played an active role in pushing forward the development of broadcasting in the region as well as promoting exchanges and dialogue between different cultures.

She said the Chinese government will always support the ABU activities in the Asia-Pacific region, which have contributed to the social progress of the region.

The representatives will also discuss the digital broadcasting and the development of new media.
