Military plane crashes in Kazakhstan, 22 killed

ALMATY - Twenty-two passengers were killed after an Antonov An-72 military plane crashed Tuesday near Shymkent, the administrative center of the Southern Kazakhstan region, Interfax news agency reported.

Preliminary findings show the plane was carrying high-ranking officials from the Kazakh National Security Committee's Border Service, said the report.

Meanwhile, a local TV station reported that the plane belonged to the country's security service.
