DAMASCUS - Five people were killed on Sunday when two roadside bombs tore through a bus carrying passengers from the central town of Misyaf to the capital Damascus, local media reported.

The explosives went off while the bus was passing through the Samalil area, reports said, adding that it also led to the wounding of 25 people.

The blast is the latest in a series of explosions that have been rattling Syria recently. The last explosions took place on Friday in Damascus when twin blasts killed at least six people.

Separately, state-run SANA news agency said the government troops freed on Sunday a total of 30 people who had been kidnapped by armed groups in the Maisaloun area in Aleppo.

In Damascus, witnesses said heavy bombing and gunfire are being heard in the surroundings of the Palestinian camp of Yarmouk, which has been caught in the middle of violent clashes in adjacent areas such as Tadamun and Hajar al-Aswad.

The oppositional Local Coordination Committees said 10 people have so far been killed on Sunday in several Syrian areas, though their claims cannot be independently checked.
