UNITED NATIONS - UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday sent his condolences to the families of the victims after a South Korean Navy patrol ship sank early Saturday off the west coast of the Korean Peninsula, with 46 of the 105 crew members aboard the ship still missing.

"The secretary-general is aware that the incident that took place in the waters off the Korean Peninsula is being investigated," the message said.
The rescue operation to search for the missing sailors is still under way, the South Korea's Yonhap News Agency reported.
