The figure was not much different from the government's prediction of 4.3 percent growth.

For the fourth quarter, Heriawan said that the economic growth may grow at more than 4 percent.

The global financial rout has slowed the country's economic growth which stood at  6.1 percent in 2007.

The country's exports have been predicted to decrease by between 18 to 19 percent  in 2009, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu has said.

But, as the global demand for the country's export products has risen, Indonesia's overseas sales were predicted to grow at over 5 percent this year, she said.
