US Army: 12 die in Texas military base shooting

Updated: 2009-11-06 05:29 HOUSTON: The US Army says 12 people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting rampage on the Fort Hood Army base in Texas. The Army says one shooter has been killed and two others apprehended on Thursday in the shooting and all are US soldiers.
US President Barack Obama has been briefed on the shootings, and the White House is monitoring the situation, a White House spokesman said. The attack happened at the Soldier Readiness Center at Fort Hood, according to the FOX 4 television station. The base is currently in lockdown mode, according to Fort Hood's website. Fort Hood is halfway between Austin and Waco, about 60 miles (97 km) from each city, in Texas.
