"We have received information that a US helicopter crashed in the Shwikhat area near the town of Dawr, 150 km north of Baghdad," the source from the Joint Coordination Center (JCC) in the province said on condition of anonymity.

"The helicopter crashed maybe due to technical failure because we did not see or heard any anti-aircraft fire before the incident, " the JCC source quoted witnesses in the rural as saying.

The US troops immediately cordoned off the area, he said.

The US military said that they could not immediately confirm the incident because they are still checking reports about it.
