Texas Tech University police officer shot dead
HOUSTON - A Texas Tech University police officer was shot and killed Monday night, and the suspect was arrested later.
An officer was shot in the head, said Chris Cook, managing director of communications and marketing office in the university's public media, in a statement.
The police found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia during a student welfare check Monday evening.
The suspect was brought to the police station for standard debriefing. During the process, the suspect pulled a gun and shot at the police officer in the head.
Texas Tech University, often referred to as Texas Tech or TTU, is a public research university in Lubbock, about 840 km northwest of Houston.
Established in 1923, and originally known as Texas Technological College, the university shares its campus with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, making it the only campus in Texas to house an undergraduate university, a law school, and a medical school.
