8 killed after avalanche hits E. Japan, 40 others injured

Seven students and a teacher were found with no vital signs after the avalanche. They were sent to a hospital and were confirmed dead Monday evening.[Photo/VCG]

The central government set up a task force at the crisis management center of the prime minister's office, with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe saying during a parliamentary session that his government "will make every effort to respond to the disaster."
