Vietnam sees 20,000 domestic violence cases annually

Xinhua | Updated: 2016-11-29 16:25
HANOI -- As many as 20,000 domestic violence cases have been reported each year in Vietnam over the last five years with increasingly serious violence, according to Ministry of Health (MoH) on Tuesday.

In every two or three days, one person is killed due to domestic violence, the majority of whom are women and children, Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA quoted the MoH as saying.

To respond to the problem, along with providing health care services for victims, the MoH said it will coordinate with relevant agencies in handling domestic violation cases in line with law.

From Nov 15 to Dec 15 this year, Vietnam is observing the National Action Month on Gender Equality and Prevention of Violence against Women and Girls for the first time, which calls on men to become pioneers in preventing violence against women.
