To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, China Central Television (CCTV) and China Daily have initiated a global online choral event that gathers internationally recognized Chinese musicians and Chinese communities around the world to express their love of country with the iconic song Yellow River Cantata.
Since the submissions began in June, many individuals, groups, organizations and associations in the Metro Vancouver area have participated in this virtual musical feast.
Groups and individuals involved in the commemoration include Simon Fraser University Chinese Students and Scholars Association, University of British Columbia Chinese Students and Scholars Association, Canada-China Youth Arts Exchange Promotion Association, Northwest Benevolent Association of Canada, Chinese Qipao Society Vancouver branch, Chinese Choir of Vancouver, Canada Melody Choir Association, BC MLA Richard Lee, Director of Canadian Community Service Association Peter Liu, Senior Chinese Society of Vancouver, and representatives of WWII Chinese-Canadian veterans.
After the call for submissions ends in late August, CCTV will collect all the recordings and produce a compilation video of the song accompanied by Chinese pianist Lang Lang.
