6.1 magnitude quake hits N Thailand

BANGKOK -- A 6.1-magnitude earthquake occurring at a depth of 10 km jolted Phan district in northern Thailand's Chiang Rai province at 6:08 pm local time on Monday, the Thai Meteorological Department said.
No reports of casualties or damage have been received as yet.
Tremor was felt in nearby provinces such as Chiang Mai and Payao, southwest and south of Chiang Rai respectively, as well as in the capital Bangkok.
The National Disaster Warning Center has warned people in quake- hit areas to stay at a safe place as there might be aftershocks.
The center said it would keep providing updates on the situation.
