WASHINGTON - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken into custody a man in US state of Minnesota who was believed to be plotting a terrorist attack, the agency's local division announced on Monday.

The FBI special agents arrested Buford Rogers, 24, in Montevideo, Minnesota without incident and discovered several guns and explosive devices during the search of his residence, the FBI Minneapolis Division confirmed in a statement.

A complaint against Rogers has been filed in Federal District Court, District of Minnesota.

The FBI said it believed a terror attack was disrupted by law enforcement personnel and that the lives of several local residents were potentially saved.

Special Agent in charge of the Minneapolis Division of the FBI J. Christopher Warrener stated that "cooperation between the FBI and its federal, state, and local partners enabled law enforcement to prevent a potential tragedy in Montevideo".

The terror plot was discovered and subsequently thwarted through the timely analysis of intelligence and the investigation remains ongoing, said the FBI.
