WASHINGTON - A deadly early morning house fire has killed six children and two adults and injured another two in Charleston, West Virginia of the United States, local TV reported on Saturday.

The fire was reported at about 3:30 am Saturday morning (0730 GMT) at a home on Arlington Avenue in Charleston and two adults and six children under the age of eight lost their lives, Charleston Assistant Fire Chief Bob Sharp told WSAZ-TV. Neighbors said the victims are two sisters and their six children.

The house that caught fire was a two-story wood frame home. Sharp said a woman and a baby were injured and taken to hospital. Another report said a child was critically injured and on life support.

A woman inside the home at the time of the fire managed to escape and called for help. At that point fire officials believed all those killed did live in the home.

Investigators said the scene did not look suspicious. No names have been released. The cause of the worst fire in Charleston's history is under investigation.
