CENTRAL VALLEY, New York - Police say they're trying to determine what led a man to kill his girlfriend from the Philippines at her brother's New York state home before turning a gun on himself.
Authorities say 26-year-old Vincent Russo of Ashburn, Virginia, repeatedly shot 22-year-old Ramy Jacildo of the Philippines with a .40-caliber handgun early Saturday morning at the home of Jacildo's brother in the hamlet of Central Valley, 45 miles north of New York City.
Police say Russo then shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in neighboring Rockland County.
Officials say Monday that Russo and Jacildo met last year while she was on vacation in Washington, D.C. Police say Russo had traveled to New York on Friday to meet her parents, also visiting from the Philippines, but never entered the house.
