Mount Sanqingshan is a granite mountain massif rising steeply to about 1,800 meters above the sea level in East China’s Jiangxi province. The mountain displays a unique arrangement of forest and fantastically shaped granite pillars and peaks concentrated in a relatively small area. Among the rock formations, many of them resemble the silhouettes of human and animal shapes, adding more mystery to the often mist-surrounded mountain. In 2008, the scenic area of Mount Sanqingshan was inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage List for its exceptional scenic quality and rich biodiversity. Mount Sanqingshan is also a National 5A Scenic Spot, a Global Geopark Network Member, and a renowned Taoist sacred mountain. |
