Pervis lifts title of men's 1km time trial

BEIJING -- French rider Francois Pervis surged to victory in the men's 1km time trial event at the Beijing stop of the UCI track cycling World Cup here on Sunday.

After two day's competition, Pervis was still full of energy. He enjoyed a perfect start in Sunday's race, refreshing the day's best record lap by lap. Finally, the 26-year-old clocked a winning time of 1 minute 01.197 seconds in the five-lap race, leading by almost two seconds to harvest the title.

The Dutch runner-up Hugo Haak raced 1:03.010 seconds, and Simon Van Velthooven from New Zealand finished the competition with 1:03.103 seconds to get the bronze.
