Comment on "Migrants find a home for capital in pursuit of foreign residence" (China Daily, Jan 23)
The ever-increasing migration of rich Chinese shows that they are not confident about the living environment, assets protection, quality of education and government policies in China. This is not a good sign, and the government should take measures to straighten things up, otherwise China will become a country drained of domestic capital.
The most important thing for the government to do is to reduce the burden of the people and protect their property. This can be done by reducing and dropping the idea of implementing new taxes (especially property tax), and increasing social security and healthcare funds so that people can have enough disposable income to improve their living conditions.
