It is not difficult to prevent corrupt officials from fleeing abroad and disciplinary and law enforcement organizations should feel ashamed when it occurs repetitively, said an article in Southern Metropolis Daily (excerpts below).
Two district-level officials under investigation for corruption in Shenzhen and Guangzhou in Guangdong provinces are reportedly "missing" for a long time.
If the disciplinary and law enforcement authorities kept a close eye, as they should, on corruption suspects it would be impossible for them to flee.
It is ridiculous that the departments of missing officials often keep silent or even try to cover up misconduct.
