Comment on "Military official's US visit linked to islands" (China Daily, Aug 23)
I believe China and the United States can work together to solve international problems if they are determined to understand each other better through dialogues and discussions.
The US, on its part, should stop provoking and inciting China's neighbors, because Beijing is highly sensitive and suspicious of its intentions in this regard. No country can "contain" or put down another, especially China, which according to all indicators is bound to rise.
Thus both sides should work together to eliminate their differences and make our planet a better place for all. This is the hope of many Chinese, though they cannot express it in English to let the Americans know.
The two countries should bury mutual suspicions and try to understand each other instead of being at odds, which is a waste of time and money.
I hope the US military official's visit to China further penetrates the cloud of suspicion and distrust, and resolve the disputes for the benefit of both countries as well as for the whole of East Asia.
